Introducing Cotton and Quill

My friends at Taylor-Burke Home introduced me to the most delightful young designer when I was at High Point Market this past October.  Her name was Mary Catherine Folmar and her new line is Cotton + Quill.   Mary Catherine is so talented!  She has designed a beautiful line of fabrics  and wallpaper, as well as a stationery and gift line.

My dear friends from Taylor-Burke used her fabrics for their Urban 2 seater.  Isn't it fabulous?

When I was in Taylor-Burke showroom these two little beauties caught my eye across the way, so I wander over to investigate and look what I found….

Fabulous fabrics...

Fabulous wallpapers and more!

Currently, Cotton + Quill has  Deco, Formosa, Shangrila, By The Sea, Tour de Amalfi all inspired by Mary Catherine's Alabama roots as well as her extended travels.  I must admit that I like that her fabrics are printed in North Carolina too.  To see the entire collection click here.  Here are some of my favorites from the collections:

My fav!!!

Mary Catherine has also created an incredible stationery line:

She also created custom bridge pads like an true southern debutante would do!  She said her grandmother loves bridge which gave her the idea.  I'm thinking I might need to get some of these made for my own mother.

One of Mary Catherine's latest creations are these adorable sachets which she sent out as Christmas gifts.

 Wrapped so pretty!

Mine was made of her Hemingway fabric in emerald and smelled of jasmine!

These travel bags are also made from her fabric line and are perfect
for a weekend getaway or birthday gift.

Cotton & Quill will also do custom fabrics such as these Mary Catherine created for Summerhouse in Florida.

Thank You Mary Catherine!  Here's to good things in 2014!
Here is a little sneak peek of somethings she is work on….

I look forward to sourcing Cotton & Quill in some of my new projects and I hope you will too!

Oh and before I forget…another thing Mary Catherine and I have in common is
Auburn!  She was a student there when my son, Walker was there.  Even though they never knew each other, when you are an Auburn fan, you are kin!

War Eagle!

Stanley "Heritage Collection" on One Kings Lane! Selling Out Fast!

One of the most fascinating showrooms at High Point Market this October Market was the Stanley Showroom.  Stanley was showcasing a collection of vintage Mid Century Stanley pieces which had been purchased and restored to their natural beauty.  This fit right into with my mantra for "authentic" design. This collection is proof positive for investing in "authentic quality and good design".  The 40 piece collection is as sought after today, as it was in 1950 and 1960, when it first debuted.  You may remember that I chose the Theme II Hall Credenza above as one of my Style Spotter Picks.  I thought it was truly amazing that Stanley had the vision and took the time, effort and money to bring this collection to market.  The pieces were acquired through antiques shops, newspaper listings, ebay and word of mouth and then painstakingly restored to their original beauty.  Feast your eyes on a couple more pieces from this amazing collection:

Thibaut - High Point Market Showroom Oct 2013

One of my absolute favorite showrooms to visit at High Point Market is the Thibaut showroom.  The company has been creating beautiful fabrics and papers since 1886, but their look is as fresh and exciting as ever.   The October showroom was simply a feast for the eyes.  Take a virtual tour of the showroom.   The design team did not disappoint.  Thibaut partnered with a few other lines to round out the vignettes in their showroom.  This market they partnered with Oomph and Van Collier  to provide accent tables, coffee tables accessories, lighting and other pieces from their line.   They also partnered with Reprotique and Currey & Co for lighting and Feizy for beautiful rugs.  All of these lines are classic with modern sensibilities, so each complimented the Thibaut products nicely.  The Oomph  line is available in a wide range of colors, which played nicely with the colorful Thibaut collections.  Van Collier and Currey & Co added  metal finishes to the showroom which was a nice addition to the fabrics and furnishings.  [click to title continue reading...]

High Point Furniture Market Tips

Let's face it, High Point Market is huge!  The market occupies over 11 1/2 million square feet, in over 180 buildings and has over 300 product categories. Over 75,000 people visit the market each April and October. The task of planning a maiden voyage to High Point Market in hopes of seeing all the showrooms you need to visit, partaking of fun events and then scooping up the latest and greatest trends to bring back to your clients is daunting to say the least.  I have been going to High Point Market since 1998 as a professional, but I remember my first trip to High Point as a design student and let me tell you I was overwhelmed to say the least.  When I returned years later I knew I had to have a plan in hand.  Over the years that plan has evolved as the market as evolved.  Today, I have a very strict itinerary to make the most of my market days.  I have had several people email and ask me how to tackle market, so I decided to write a few posts with my best tips.  I am going to attempt to cover need to know info in a few post which I hope will prove helpful. Here are a few preliminary suggestions on planning your first market trip.

Scot Meacham Wood - Fabulous Friend on Friday

Meet the fabulous Scot Meacham Wood.   I really dont' need to say a thing about this guy, the picture says it all.  Fun, colorful and decidedly dapper, this guy really knows how to live an intentionally stylish life!  Scot hails from California, but has a southern upbringing which was evident to me the first time I met him.  I'm not quite sure where that meeting occurred, because I feel as though I have always known him.  He has a gift of making you feel like an old friend the minute you meet him.[...]
