Thoughts from Lisa...
I have always had a passion for design. As a child, I spent many hours designing houses for my dolls. Ironically when I went off to college, my passion for interior design was sidetracked by Fashion Design. My first degree was a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics and Business with a minor in Art because a 4 year degree in Interior Design wasn't offered at my school during those days. When I was in my thirties, I found myself designing homes for family and friends. It was then that I decided to returned to college to pursue interior design! I went to design school at UNC-Greensboro and Winthrop College in Fort Mill, SC.
For the past 17 years, I have worked as a residential designer in the southeast with my home base being Charlotte,NC
In 2009, my life changed forever when I lost my oldest son, Walker, in a kayaking accident. I walked away from my practice and didn't think I would ever work again. During my time grieving, I spent many hours pondering what was important in my life. As an interior designer, I was focused on material things which suddenly had no relevence in my sudden state of devastation. How could I ever return to designing homes for others when my own world had fallen apart. It was during those hours of solitude, that Lisa Mende Design blog was born. The blog was a vehicle for satisfying my need to create, reconnect to people and evidentually was key in helping me return to my passion of interior design. Not only did the blog allow me to voice my thoughts and creative ideas, but through people I met while blogging I found my way back to my work.
My life isn't perfect, but I feel lucky to do what I love everyday for amazing clients. I thank God for the ability to be creative and am happiest when I can use my talents to design an environment where families can thrive. My job isn't about what's in or out of style, it is about making a difference in the lives of others. I take pride in building custom environments where the personalities of my clients is evident in every corner of every room designed thoughtfully for them.
