MADCAP COTTAGE - HIGH POINT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

A highlight of my High Point Furniture Market trip was a visit to the Madcap Cottage space in the Antiques and Design Center.  Created by Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke, Madcap Cottage an interior design business which also offers  a vintage furniture shop and fabulous pillow line.  On a recent visit to their space at market, I was in awe of the dazzling array of carefully curated goods from all over the globe.  Do you remember when I style spotted their new pillow line last year?  If not click here to be refreshed!  I'm not the only one who loves this talented duo's finery, they were style spotted by half of the High Point Market Style Spotter panel(all designers) this market and with good reason!
Feast your eyes on the goodness of Madcap Cottage

[finish reading after the break..]

Can you even stand it?

Jason and John travel the world in search of items
worthy of "Madcap makeovers".  Take this darling Michael Taylor Baker asian inspired sofa for example, see how they created their signature look with the mix of florals, geometrics, ikat and color? A visit with the "Madcap gents" is a lesson in creativity.  (The sofa is available for purchase here.)

Every inch of the showroom was filled with carefully curated
art inspired vignettes in brass, glass, sculpture, and more.

This incredible children's chandelier made me wish
a nursery project.  (Anyone need a new nursery chandy?)
Madcap Cottage pieces are unique and will add that certain
je ne sais quoi to a room.

This market walls were covered in a pair of Thibaut's latest "resort collection" wallpapers which provided the perfect back drop for Madcap Cottage's collection of vintage art. Only Jason and John could artfully combine two patterns to achieve an end result that is totally "Madcap Cottage" magic.

I also love this sweet little mirror hanging on the paper. I especially loved the detail on the mirror.  If you take a closer look in the mirror you catch a glimpse of ....

These amazing framed soldiers.  Feast your eyes on
that tray table mirror over the chest too.  Wow!

Every time I look at these soldier prints, I mentally redecorate my son's room. I find them very handsome and timeless.

Here is a view of the incredible way Jason and John created gallery walls that work well together.  Yet, another "Madcap" lesson on making art of various sizes, shapes and subjects work harmoniously along side one another in a room.  Isn't it brilliant how the red framed piece on the left is balanced by the reflection in the mirror on the right?

Here is the other wallpaper from Thibaut 's newest collection  used in their space called "shore thing"  Don't you find the combination of old things against a wallpaper with current vibe  interesting? This photo is confirmation Jason and John are "masters of the mix" when it comes to home decor. Actually, pondering over the "Madcap gents" ability to mix patterns, style and colors, bring that old Carly Simon song comes to mind "Nobody does it better."

When I stand around and look at all the good things Jason and John have curated, it sparks my creativity and provides inspiration. This pair of 1950's American Folk Art lamps caught my eye on the way out of the space.  Can't you envision twin beds in a room with upholstered walls with Sherry and Holland red check with a cotton twill "meadow" piping as a backdrop to a pair of tailored over the bed valances of plaid mixed with the perfect chintz to add a dash of "Madcap" to your own home?  Sheer fabulousness!

This grouping paperweights would make the perfect bedside table collection to entertain your guest or on a coffee table to stack on various heights of books.

....Or possibly some of these interesting pieces of murano glass would make you smile?

Jason and John's vast collection of chairs bedecked in
"Madcap" fabulousness are sure to spark some creative
decorating ideas as well.  Take a gander at this James Mont low slung slipper chair with Cowtan & Tout fabric. Here are a few more of my favs they had on the floor this market...

Handsome little retro number in blue and white, piped in green and dressed with a couple of Madcap Cottage pillows.

How about this vintage canopy chair with Tony Duquette upholstery I can think of about 50 places this chair
could work in my own house!  J'adore!

Of course there are always lots of smiles, due to happy customers when shopping at Madcap Cottage.  Here is my friend, Kathleen DiPaulo, caught in the act, as she discovers the perfect, precious poodle to take home to California.  (Kathleen later reported the poodle arrived safely in her suitcase to her abode!)

The best part of shopping at Madcap CottageThese two.. Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke, the creative forces behind Madcap Cottage.  Visiting with them is a valuable lesson not just in design, but in life itself.  The lesson..."do what you love and the rest will follow".  It is so interesting to pick up a piece and ask Jason or John, where they found it?  The answer is always a story as colorful as the piece in question, and anyone who knows these gents wouldn't expect anything less.

High Point Market ended last week, but you can still shop Madcap Cottage on 1st Dibs here.
