Sanderson Hotel - Blogtour London

One of my favorite nights while in London with Modenus Blogtour our evening at the famous  Sanderson Hotel located in London's fashionable and cosmopolitan Soho district. We enjoyed an uber cool cocktail hour and dinner.  Steeped in a interesting history, this hotel is hip, cool and totally the place you want to stay or just hang out, while in London!

The Sanderson was built on Berners Street in 1958 and served as headquarters and showroom for Arthur Sanderson and Sons, makers of well known Sanderson fabrics, paints and wallpapers. The design of the building was constructed around an Philip Japanese garden that opens to the sky.  The hotel was reopened in 2000 by the ever so stylish Morgans Hotel Group.  Evidence of the original showroom design exists, but todays hotel is edgy with an Alice in Wonderland vibe thanks to Philippe Starck.  What was once the long retail counter for the showroom is now the 80ft " Long Bar."  It is the place to see and be seen in London.  A true destination for locals as well as visitors.

The i-conic(get it?) "Long Bar"

Overall view of the bar room.

They had their "eye" on us from the
 start of the evening.

There are many great places to dine both
intimate and communally. Here is a shot of the lovely
Suka Restaurant which is suppose to be fab.

"Heritage Garden" designed by Philip Hicks

is now a landmark.

The hotel is built around this open garden.

Heritage Garden has a zen like feel that
 offers ambiance during dining.

We just missed the Madhatter's afternoon tea when we arrived.  This cute little teapot was on my table, so I couldn't resist taking a picture.  That is suppose to be quite the event. They bring you an Alice in Wonderland book with a menu inside.  This is a must do on a return trip.

Our cocktail hour began in the "Purple Bar".  This place is chic, intimate and draped in violet silk curtains.

The bar looks like a gigantic meteorite just landed in the middle of the room.  The look and feel of glamour is intensified by the venetian mirror surrounding the bar and opulent fabrics and furnishing. The dim lights created drama.

Lavendar Queen Anne chairs surrounding drinks tables continue the theatrical bar's purple theme.

The drinks were great and the ambience was even better.  Talk about sexy…this place was uber sexy.

The ceiling was purple and tufted…Wow!

The lobby is filled with both baroque and modern furniture which adds to the "Alice in Wonderland" whimsical feel of the hotel.

The lobby was a mixture of interesting furniture like this
extremely long chaise.

Quirky pieces like this bubble swing

Elevators surrounded by wide frames of venetian glass.

The Lobby desk was back lit which created drama
in this area. Candles and purple swagged drapery continued the dramatic effect.

The playful style that Starck arranged the furniture
invited guest to sit or lounge about the space.

There was something interesting everywhere I looked
even in the hallways and bathrooms.

The bathroom was beautifully designed with pale pink tile walls and largest Venetian Mirror I have ever seen.

Luxury everywhere which is what we have come to expect with an Visa Luxury Travel Hotel experience.

Even our waiter was a class act!

Do I look happy on the Dali Lips?  This was my kind of place from start to finish. My only regret was not getting to see the paintings mounted on the ceiling over the beds in the guest rooms. Next time I'm staying at the Sanderson!
I can't wait to return!  You heard it first here!
Sanderson….I plan to return for a longer stay!

Thank You Simon Berger for a lovely evening.
(and for my scotch which my husband adored!)
