One of the most exciting places I visited during High Point Market was the showroom of the John Richard Collection.  I have bought John Richard for clients for many years, and I must say the showroom has never looked better.

Huntington House at High Point Market

High Point Market is over, but the beautiful showrooms I visited are still dancing in my head.  One of my favorite new showrooms was Huntington House Furniture.  This showroom isn't on the main avenue, so I had to walk a bit to get there, but once I arrived, I was thrilled with what I found.

Huntington House is a North Carolina-based company whose is passionate about producing quality furniture that is also comfortable while offering designs that are updated and luxurious.  Everything is made in North Carolina!  What can be better than made in the USA?

6 Reasons Designers Should Attend High Point International Market

 Arteriors

Yesterday, one of my designer pals asked me to give her three reasons I attend High Point Market twice a year.  If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I am a huge proponent of attending market.  As a designer, if you don't attend High Point Market, you miss out on an opportunity that can provide experiences to enrich your business.
The first time I went to High Point Market was in the seventies when I was a college student.  I only went once with my interior design class then, but once I opened my practice in 1998, I have attended the market annually.  Things have changed a great deal since those early days in High Point.  I wouldn't think of missing High Point Market.  I have a home court advantage I know but even if I lived a plane flight away, I would be in High Point twice a year for the market.  It is imperative to a designer's business.  If you are a designer and asking yourself why I think it is so important, I'll share with you the top five reasons I consider High Point Market a "must attend" event for designers.

How To Create a Custom Home: Hickory Chair

Have you ever questioned why you should hire a designer?  I mean come on, you can copy a room from Pinterest and order similar products from Restoration Hardware can't you?  You can buy complete vignette off the floor at Pottery Barn as an option too.   Is that what you want your home to say about you?  Fast, easy and well I want to say cheap, but let's face it, buying retail is an investment too.  Decorating your home from the big box stores isn't cheap, but you get a look that is generic. Do you really want to invest your hard earned dollars in furniture that

As a designer, buying from the big box stores is something I don't understand.  Why would you want cookie cutter interiors, when you can have a custom look for a little more money?  Our homes tell a story about us, do you really want your story to be bland and average or what I call the "vanilla" decorating look?

A true designer works hard to create a custom look that speaks to your design aesthetic and tells your story.  Sure designers sometimes buy filler pieces from retailers to finish out a room and stay on budget, but the majority of items are often custom tailored for the client's project.  Customization is what sets your home apart from your neighbor's house. One of the companies designers often look to for customization is Hickory Chair.

Hickory Chair Furniture Company has been creating custom furniture since 1911 in Hickory, North Carolina.  It's hard to believe this company has been creating beautiful furniture for over one hundred years!  To think, Hickory Chair began with  a made-to-order dining chair and simple vision.  Today, Hickory Chair's furniture continues to be made to order by a talented team of artisans.  The company has maintained its original vision of custom craftsmanship and timely service.   Have you seen all the beautiful furniture Hickory Chair is creating these days?  Wow, is all I can say!  Pop over to their website and see the complete collection from Hickory Chair.

I visited the Hickory Chair Showroom during High Point Market and fell in love with the Everett Lounger silhouette shown here.  As I walked through the showroom, I saw the Everett chair in several fabrics with custom details tweaked to create various looks.  This is a great example of how Hickory Chair's customization can create unique furniture for your home.

Here the Everette Loungeris shown in a dark green mohair fabric
with cream pipping. How handsome would this chair
 be in a gentleman's study?

Would you recognize this chair as the same chair as above?  The Everette Lounger
shown here in a more formal look.  The cushion back and seat has been
tufted and self piped to create a chair more suited to a living room.

The Everett is shown in a creme fabric, with leather piping and buttons for
 a more casual look.

I've shown you the same chair offered in three different options, are you amazed at how differently the fabrications look?  This is a small example of the many ways this chair can be crafted to meet the demands of a custom designed room.  The next time you are redecorating a room in your home.  Ask yourself, "do I want something my neighbor can buy or do I want something unique for my home."  I'll bet in the long run you will save money by hiring the designer and getting a custom look, which won't be on sale in six months when the retailer's catalogue rolls out with a new look.  Custom created designs have longevity because we don't tire from seeing them advertised all over the place.  Quality furniture like Hickory Chair offers bench made quality, which lasts longer than mass produced furniture too.

Your home deserves quality furniture like Hickory Chair!
As your designer today for Hickory Chair
Quality furniture with custom options, that's Hickory Chair!

Let Hickory Chair make your home's story unique!

Pulaski Furniture

I wanted to circle back around to Pulaski Furniture.  I originally posted about Pulaski before I went to High Point Market here.  While I was at market I visited the Pulaski showroom and saw some pretty amazing furniture.  As a designer I can't buy Pulaski directly but I can buy it through furniture retailers like Furnitureland South in Jamestown.  You can buy from FurnitureLand South online as well.  Click here to see the Pulaski furniture they carry.  FurnitureLand South ships nationwide via Free White Glove delivery!  However, I found by clicking on the dealer search on the Pulaski website, I can also buy Pulaski Furniture at Blacklion, Tyndalls, and Good's Home Furnishings here in Charlotte, NC, so I suggest you search the dealer section of their website to see who sells Pulaski in your city if you want to inquire about purchasing something you see on the blog.

Let's take a couple of minutes and look at some of Pulaski's beautiful offerings

This collection is both rust and refined.  The headboard and mirror frame
are reminiscent of an antique mirror frame.

The collection features classic, delicate carvings along with french influences.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
The Farrah collection from Pulaski exemplifies opulence and glamour. Featuring a multi-step metallic finish, antique mirror borders add a touch of sparkle and silver drop- ring pulls complete the sophisticated and elegant look. Platinum fabric panels on the headboard and footboard are bejeweled with rhinestone buttons.
Montgomery Collection

The Handsome Montgomery Collection pairs beautiful, rich finishes with leather and antiqued nail head trim.  Classic elegance at its best.  This collection is perfectly
at home in a country estate or an urban brownstone.

The Reflections Collection features fine detailing such as antique mirror surfaces
and soft silver tipping.  This collection was inspired by Louis XV.  Shown here
is the Refections Sideboard.  To see more of the Reflections collection click here.

Accentrics Home from Pulaski was created with Old World timeless design motifs combined with inspiration from the beauty of nature. Graceful proportions mixed
with aged patina finishes add charm and character to each unique piece.

Beautiful gloss black Curio with Hollywood glamour!  Sure to be a focal point in any room.  The two glass front doors feature circular framed patterns and add just a touch of glitz. Pulaski offers a tremendous collection of curio display cabinets in styles that range the gambit from contemporary to traditional.

Love these nesting tables which can be used together as shown or

Pulaski also makes great looking bars and bar stools.

I especially liked this bar which is a replica of an antique safe.

One of my favorite division of Pulaski Furniture was their RoomGear Collection for kids.

The RoomGear Collection features luxe furnishing for the younger set.

Thomasville Furniture at High Point Market

Thomasville Furniture has been making beautiful furniture in North Carolina since 1904.
Originally Thomasville produced one chair called the "Thomasville Chair."  The chair was so well received the company began to get request for other pieces of furniture and hence a brand.  Thomasville has grown from that one chair to a company that now encompasses  home furnishings, accessories and cabinetry.  To think this tremendous furniture
company began from the success of one chair!

Thomasville Furniture has produced two of the most successful licensed
furniture collections in the industry: Ernest Hemingway®, The Collection
of a Lifetime; and Humphrey Bogart™

Pulaski Furniture "Rhythm and Home" Collection

Pulaski Furniture introduced their new Rhythm & Home Collection at High Point Market. This collection fuses
artistry with furnishings to create a collection with style, comfort and individuality.  The collection was inspired
by the music of Matt Marshak, one of the country's leading contemporary jazz musicians.  The foundation
of the collection is rooted in classics, but a fresh and fluid mix of contemporary and urban styling.

The same sexy energy Matt Marshak uses to create his contemporary jazz
and R&B was evident in the design of this collection.  Pulaski designers did an
amazing job of creating vignettes which reflected a casual, easy living vibe
much like the music which inspired the collection.

Music wasn't the only inspiration for the collection but also the musical
instruments themselves.  Here is a very creative use of guitars as a back drop to
 Pulaski's new table and chair.

There was a stage set up in the show room where Matt and his band performed
during market.  This new intro bar table and chairs was situated in front the the stage.
The top of the bar table is a replica of a street sewer cap.

Pulaski is known for their beautifully made bars, so it was no surprise they
included one in  the Rhythm and Home collection.  Note the drum cymbals
as decoration on the back wall.

This leather chaise was a favorite of mine.  How great would this piece
be in a masculine bedroom or man cave?

The bedroom collections from Rhythm and Home feature masculine touches
of leather, stained wood and sueded fabrics.

Here is a closeup of the hardware on one of the pieces.  The inspiration for
this hardware was guitar strings.

Other interesting details feature bluetooth technology in the nightstands discretely
integrated into the top of the furniture as shown above.

This handsome bar cart with antique brass trim and hardware is a
nice addition to the collection.

Lounge seating is available in this collection as shown here in leather again with very masculine details.
This would be great for a man cave or family recreation room.

Here is a closeup of the small drinks table/stool shown above.  This table
can be height adjusted by twisting the top up or down making this
great as a table or a stool.

Last, but certainly not least, is this beautiful urban designed dining room furniture.  Handsome, sophisticated and upscale.

I hope you enjoyed my visit to the Pulaski Furniture show room and their Rhythm
and Home Collection.  I have more from Pulaski I want to share with you in upcoming
posts so be on the look out for more to come.
