My Word for 2014

I saw this picture today on Facebook of my friends when we were in London for blogtour with Modenus.  My friend and follow designer, The Modern SybariteRichard Rabel is giving us a royal wave from his black cab.  I thought it the perfect picture to wave 2013 good bye.  In our Tobi Fairley Mastermind group, we have all chosen a word to set our intentions for the new year.  Last year, you might remember mine was authentic.  Of course after I chose it there was a landfall of people who also posted it as their word of the year for 2013, so it was a little watered down for me, but I think I stuck with it pretty well.  When I look back on last year, I feel like I achieved many of the goals I set for myself and even had some surprises along the way.  I'll talk more about that tomorrow but for today, I wanted to share my word for 2014.

Over the course of the past year, I have had so many fabulous opportunities come my way.  I'm not complaining at all because I would not have changed a thing if I had it to do all over but I would change my focus and live more intentionally.

The Fresh Hues Blog

No matter what the situation if you approach with a focus things seem to fall into place in a more meaningful way.  If you go about things willy nilly, you often miss some really important opportunities.

I believe in living life with intention and creating intentional design therefore, I am going to focus on my work and my life and make every effort intentional.

I'm making a conscious effort to delete things that don't bring happiness, joy or benefit to my family or my work. Those things can include, but isn't limited to lifestyle choices, methods, organization, design related functions or events, people, and just plain time suckers.  I also vow not to notice the competition because if I am watching others I am not using my time wisely and by watching them my divert my focus on goals that will be more beneficial to my work.  You know what they say about "Comparison being the thief of Joy".

I have created 12 focus themes for each month.  I will have a focus goal and will implement steps to achieve that goal in the 30 days of each month. I'll share more of my 12 goals later.

I have been dealt tragedies in my life, but instead of focus on the loss or sadness  I am going to look for the lessons I learned and put them to good use in making me a stronger person, better listener and better friend, wife and mother.

I plan to treat each goal in my life as though I am looking through the lens of a camera and focus on exactly what I see happening and what I need to see happening, then adjust and
go make it happen!  I am responsible for me!  It's that simple.  What I do today I will most likely reap the benefits from in 6 months so I plan to make ever day a day filled with proactive plans and thoughts.  Every baby step is a step in the right directions closer to my goals.

My focus will also be on the actual journey or process, because I think we learn so much about  ourselves through the process of doing.  I want to embrace the journey and enjoy every moment.  I am not going to beat myself up when things don't go my way or don't work out.  I am going to focus on how to extract the good from the bad and make every situation a win win even if it means learning how to live through disappoints.

I plan to focus on the things that bring the most happiness in my personal life and in my work life.  Living intentionally with life in focus.  Yep, that's my goal for 2014!  Join Me!

    1. Haha, Linda, you can have that word too! I don't own it! It's such a common word in our business. Let's focus together! It came to me when I was talking to Traci the other day.

  2. Focus was my word last year. I stuck to it and I'm very happy with my path over the past year and even more so my current direction (the result of being more focused). The payoff of a little clarity is great, I promise… you can do it!!! xo, TAM

  7. Great word...great post...great life! Thx for sharing. Best of luck on your goals. I'll follow along with you as ones life always could use more focus. I havent chosen a word yet (never have actually) but if I did it might be "clarity" which falls along the lines of focus. I'm going to focus on bringing clarity to my family & work life. Your post helped me think of what to say to my teen daughter about a particular issue....I might even share your post w/her if she doesnt hear it well from Mom :-)
