Lisa Mende Design is Featured in October 2015 Traditional Home Magazine

I received a nice surprise yesterday when I discovered the kitchen I had designed for the Traditional Home "Randall B Terry" Showhouse is featured in the new October issue of Traditional Home Magazine.  The article is written by Amy Ebert, who did a beautiful job explaining the inspiration behind the design for the kitchen and the history of the house.   I don't want to spoil the surprise so I'll wait to share more.  Make sure you pick up the current issue of Traditional Home October 2015 issue to see the rest of this feature as well as all the other wonderful designer rooms in this showhouse.  Warning:  it's a good one!

The breakfast room I designed is also in the magazine.  I adore the CR Laine banquette in "It's all Greek" Sunbrella fabric and Citrine Sweeny leather chairs with nailhead trim.  Aren't they dynamite?  I liked them so much I purchased them for my breakfast room after the showhouse closed.  Other things to note in this room are the custom commission Kerry Steele painting, the Mark Boomershine "Dinner Party" tablecloth art installation, Dash and Albert Catamaran rug, Somerset Bay Console, Circa Lamps by Alexa Hampton and French Heritage Dian table.  Cotton and Quill fabric were the cherry on top!  Of course the room wouldn't be complete without mention of the fab Currey and Co Jean- Louis chandelier.  The room is wrapped in beautiful Thibaut  royal blue grasscloth and the ceiling is covered in Cole and Son Labyrinth
 geometric wallpaper!

I also designed the mudroom in this house.  I'll let you pick up the
magazine to read my inspiration for this space but let me make a quick mention of the custom wallpaper and bench fabrics I used in this space...it was custom designed by Cotton and Quill, isn't it fab?  I'll give you a hint about my inspiration...

this room "has gone to the dogs"  so to speak!

Make sure you pick up a copy of Traditional Home Oct 2015 today!!!!

Photo Styling for Traditional Home Magazine!

This week been an exciting week for me.  As a designer, it was
a different kind of excitement than I usually receive.  I'm usually
the one hoping one of my projects gets picked up by a
magazine, but this time my role in the project was different.
I was working as the photo stylist, not the designer.  Sometimes
magazines hire photo stylist to come in to assist the photographer.
This project was one of those times.  This closet wasn't an ordinary closet.  It was an entire room with beautiful features.  My job wasn't to change anything the designer had done but rather to enhance the
room with flowers and objects to further tell the story.

I have done photo styling for myself and for other designers,
but this was the first time a major shelter magazine had hired me to photo style for one of their projects.  Krissa Rossbund was the producer of the project, so I followed Krissa's direction in styling the project.  She is a pro at what she does and so nice.  The day of the shoot, I worked along with photographer, Dustin Peck whom I have worked with for the past few years, so it was a very comfortable working situation.   I love working with Dustin, not only is he is an extremely talented photographer, but he has a gentle nature and a dry wit.  He always makes me laugh.  He never gets upset if I say, "can we reshoot so I can move that drapery panel 1/8" of a nano inch.  The designer, Gray Walker, was a pleasure to met.
She works right here in the same city I do, but we had never met.

If you have never done a photo shoot, you cannot comprehend the
tediousness of getting the right angles to explain best a room for
publication.  If you have done shoots, you know what I mean.  The right angle or right light can make a room dull or spectacular.  Dustin is
a true artist as what he does so working with him is sheer joy.
The day we finished shooting I came home to my husband asked "what did you do today" and I said "I photo styled a closet" for a magazine.
"A closet," he asked?  I said "yes, but this isn't just any closet, it is a
mega closet."

Imagine my delight, when I got a message from Krissa Rossbund, of Traditional Home, that Gray's closet had made the cover!  I was so excited for her and thrilled that Dustin and I had gotten a shot worthy of the cover.

Julia Buckingham Edelmann Shares Color Tips with Traditional Home Magazine

I went to Paris last year due to the prompting of my friend and talented designer, Julia Buckingham Edelmann of Buckingham Interior Design of Chicago.  If you are in Chicago, make sure you visit her store.  If you aren't in Chicago, check out her website!  Julia is one of Chicago's leading designers, and I would say one of the leading designers in our country.  Be on the lookout for many exciting things to come from Julia in the very near future!
 Totally amazing!!!

Julia is one of my favorite designer friends.  I am always excited when I find out we are meeting up at industry events.  We had known each other for many years on social media, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago, that we met in person.  We were instant friends.

I just returned from three days with Julia at a Thermador and Traditional Home "Great Kitchens Event" in California.  The event was amazing!  Being with Julia was the icing on the cake!   There is always laughter and giggles when Julia and I get together.

This morning I was delighted to discover, Julia was sharing her color tips, with Traditional Home magazine!  She is a color diva, so take heed.  These are tips worth savoring.
I have included only a 12 of my favorites of Julia's tips, because I didn't want to lift Traditional Home's entire article, but I did want to whet your appetite, so you will, click over  to the feature and to read all the tips and see more photos of Julia's work.
