Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comforts

Kelly Wearstler lighting line debuted with Visual Comforts Lighting at High Point International Market in October 2014.  It was evident Wearstler was in the house when approaching the showroom.   The showroom's right window were filled with Wearstler creations.   The showroom was was elbow to elbow, as designers and buyers came to see what the buzz was about.

Kelly did not disappoint!  The collection was everything I expected from Wearstler.

The line is comprised of eight collections, including chandeliers, pendants, flush mounts, wall sconces and table and floor lamps.   The range of materials scanned the gambit from ceramics, marble, alabaster, textured bronze, silver to gunmetal paired with cast glass and natural stones.  All pieces in the collection beautifully executed.

This was one of my favorite collections.

The collections are: Zephyr, which is influenced by Wearstler’s love of luxurious textures and iconic architectural detailing;  Mélange, inspired by her love of natural stone and luxe metals; Liaison, which features spirited grandeur and soulful architectural design in natural bronze and cast textured glass; Covet, which highlights raw natural stones mounted in a signature natural bronze prong setting; Precision, which features perforated metal in a rich natural bronze finish; Utopia, which calls upon Wearstler’s love of nature and features topographic and organic forms inspired by California’s coastal landscape; Strada, which draws inspiration from Wearstler’s signature kaleidoscope design; and Cubist, influenced by her love of Alexander Calder’s mobiles and how they react to the environment.

“This collection draws upon various periods of design with each piece using a different creative approach,” said Wearstler. “I could easily envision mixing and matching the various pieces within one of my own residential projects. Some are loud statement pieces and others possess a quieter point-of-view. There is a hierarchy of voices. I tried to draw upon my experience creating jewelry, incorporating fine detailing and signature textures, I think this really makes all the difference. The designs are classic in form but they still feel modern and distinctive.”

This collection was another favorite.

Fun Fact:
Did you know Kelly grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC therefore has Southern roots?    I met Kelly last year when I was in Paris scouring around the flea markets.   I happen to run into Kelly with Ian Phillips, Field Editor for Architectural Digest.  I have been a long admirer of Kelly and her work, so when I saw her I was beyond excited.  She was very friendly and commented on how nice it was to hear a southern accent. When I saw her in High Point we talked about our chance meeting in Paris.   For a few minutes it was like old friends catching up.   She told me she was enjoying High Point and had taken the time to take a Birkam Yoga class that morning, before going to the showroom.  She is probably in the 1% of market goers who actually exercised prior to walking 10 miles around market for the day.

The collection will begin shipping next year.  I'm sure this collection will be as successful as all things Kelly touches.  After all she does have the midas touch!

More on High Point!  Stay Tuned!  I will soon be reporting on my take on this years Trend at High Point October Market!
