AELFIE RUGS

I recently had the good fortune of being introduced to a great rug resource in New York called AELFIE.   Located in Brooklyn, AELFIE is a rug design company and vintage rug showroom.  I find the story of how this company began quite interesting.  AELFIE is another story of how "necessity can be the mother of invention".  The owner, Aelfie bought her first rug as a teenager in Istanbul.  That first rug ignited a flame which has grown into AELFIE rugs.  Aelfie's first dealings with textiles, was as a student in Columbia University's Department of Religion.   When Aelfie couldn't find the rugs she wanted in the United States she decided to design her own collection.  Voila, a star is born!

AELFIE design studio is home to the signature line of AELFIE rugs and a curated collection of textiles from around the world.  Located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the showroom is open by appointment.

The Collection is a fresh interpretation of vintage inspiration directed by Aelfie Oudghiri's scholarly approach to textiles. The designs are at home in contemporary or classic interiors alike. The colors vary because the rugs are hand made. There are so many beautiful variations of colors and designs.  All reminiscent of the past.  The rugs are handwoven in India using traditional weaving methods.

The company's humble roots began with dealings in vintage rugs.  Today, AELFIE continues to offer a wide selection of vintage goods from around the world.

Here are a few of my favorite vintage rugs currently available in the showroom.
There are more options available on the website.

The latest Cumulus Collection is whimsical and fun!

The Cumulus Collection is a collaboration between AELFIE and textile design studio OBRA OBSCURA.   Each of the sheepskin in the collection is hand dyed in Bushwick, Brooklyn and made-to-order.
