Scot Meacham Wood

Christmas is coming early this year!  The upcoming issue of the December/January 2014  House Beautiful hits the newsstands tomorrow!  I feel like a child waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve! It will feature my friend and fellow designer, Scot Meacham Wood's  beautiful San Francisco home.  I featured Scot last May on my Fabulous Friends on Friday series when he participated in the Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Showhouse.

Here, we are in the entry way of Scot's home. He considers this an introduction
to layers of texture, color, chinoiserie, books and art which fill his home.  If we
were visiting in Scot's home, he would immediately offer a drink, so go grab
a cup of tea, get comfortable and let's start the tour.

Scot founded SMW Designs, after a thirteen year career in "creative services" with Ralph Lauren.  Scot tributes his work at RL along with his southern roots for fine tuning his design aesthetic.  A visit to Scot's website gives cues to Scot's approach to design, as well as his own approach to life.  The  first question to clients is "tell me how you live".  Scot feels every good design can be built on information gleamed from that simple question.  He prides himself on creating homes that are personalize and reflect the personality of the homeowner.  Carefully curated rooms that appear collected over time from grand estates and the finest antique shops is Scot's hallmark. His own home is proof he practices what he preaches to his clients!  Take a gander.

When I think of plaid, Scot is the first person who comes to mind.  Touring his apartment, his "passion for plaid" is evident in fabrics used for chairs, pillows and window treatments. There are layers of plaid on plaid in some areas, carefully chosen as only a "master of the mix" could do.  His palette also includes  handsome touches of tweeds, tartans and other menswear patterns, mixed with moody hues, which together reflect a timeless, anachronistic aesthetic rooted in tradition design.

His work evokes the romantic, collected style of the Edwardian era and incorporates layers of textures, patterns for a masculine, Scottish-inspired style.

Scot designed his apartment with nighttime in mind, painting dark walls in the living room for a dramatic backdrop to showcase his many amazing collections of art and furniture. Scot has a flair for creating the perfect mood for entertaining.

Scot continues his attention to details by dressing the simple bathroom sink in a tailored toile skirt and the bath tub in a handsome custom monogrammed shower curtain.

In Scot's kitchen, freestanding metal shelves extend the counter space and offer creative display of his beautiful collections of china, silver and crystal.  Above the shelving is a plaid adorned window which affords a view of the Golden Gate Park, yet another suggestion of Scot's mastery at the art of living well.  Well done!
Scot so graciously shares his talents with his clients and all of us who are luckily enough to call him a friend.   In Scot's own so often salutation, "Cheers" Scot, here's to a life well lived!  Thanks for allowing us to visit your beautiful home!

Hopefully, this abbreviate tour whet your appetite to see the complete tour in the new House Beautiful on newsstands tomorrow!  Be there early!  I think they will sell out quickly!
