Here are Several Ways to Deal with The Elephant In The Room a.k.a. "The Flat Screen"
Things to Keep in Mind When Decorating with Flat Screens:
- Don't buy a flat screen too large for your space.
- Be creative with placement, it doesn't have to where it has always been.
- Groupings of pictures work better than one large picture. The large picture will
compete but the flat screen can become part of the grouping
-Try to keep the art simple, the less color the better. When viewing you
don't want your eye to be distracted by the art.
-Group of art in odd numbers, not including the flat screen will make the the grouping
feel balanced to your eye.

Here they have chosen to make the focal point the fabulous
marble surround of the fireplace.
By framing the screen with moulding the flat screen
becomes part of the design element of the wall like paneling.
I love the look of this room!
I typically am not a fan of the flat screen over the mantle but it works so well in this photograph.
I think it is because the accessories are so well chosen. The pair of simple white ceramic ginger jars
positioned on either side of the flat screen, add soft curves and keep the wall interesting.
I adore the covered books in the bookcase and those cute little elephants.
Just the right design elements without being too distracting for the viewer.

These are just a few examples, there are so many more. .
The main thing to remember is the flat screen is a focal point in a room,
so it is important to treat it as such. Try to make it as handsome as possible.
After all, the flat screen is an extension of your husband, isn't it? It is at my house!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Ideas! I'm getting ready to move and will have a large flat screen to deal with! The most logical place for it in the small house is over the mantel, which is very distressing to me. I've also seen something interesting done with shutters mounted over the wall to cover the t.v. Thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteWow, that is very creative! I like the picture of the brown molding the best. It's actually quite similar with what I did to mine, though instead of bookshelves, I had to spray paint wall rack mounts for my DVD player, TV, and speakers. Also, so that the bottom of the TV won’t look plain, I placed a mantle under it, where my son’s Ipod and Wii is under lock and key in a drawer.
