Julie Neill Designs - New Orleans,La

I had the pleasure of experiencing the magical world of Julie Neill Designs while in New Orleans over the past two weeks installing the Southern Style now Showhouse and attending the festivities. 

 Julie is a lighting designer with a beautiful showroom located on Magazine Street in New Orleans or Nola as the locals call it.  I have been a fan of her work for many years.  Julie is known for creating beautiful traditional beaded chandeliers similar to what you see above.  However, my visit proved this designer is much more than a one-trick pony.  Julie can design lighting your heart desires.  One visit to her website reveals some of the many styles of lighting she designs and creates, but when it comes to Julie, the sky is the limit as far as design goes.  She has created lighting for the famous Brennan's Restaurant in New Orleans, as well as many other places that would surprise you. Her latest venture into plaster has my design wheels spinning.  Here is the Diego Chandelier she created for Melanie Turner, designer the foyer in the Atlanta Home and Lifestyles "Southeastern Showhouse" in Atlanta, Georgia in May where I was also a designer.

"Southern Style Now" Guest Cottage Kitchen

When space is an issue can you still have a functional kitchen?  The answer is a resounding YES!!!  Check out the small yet functional kitchen Shaun Smith and I created together for the Southern Style Now Showhouse guest cottage.  Shaun is the interior designer who was hired by the homeowners before the house became the showhouse for the Southern Style Now event.   When it came time to design the kitchen in the guest cottage, Shaun and I worked together to choose the color of the cabinets, the tile backsplash, flooring and the hardware.   I don't need to tell you how much I love, love Thermador appliances because you already know from previous postings I'm sure.  

This kitchen features the new 30" Thermador range, dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator all neatly tucked away in a kitchen with a footprint which is typical of a tiny apartment, yet offers the option of proper appliances in a pro kitchen.  To make this little gem shine we added Crossville Tile inc. 's Sympatico tile in matte white which will be available in August of this year and flooring is

 Speak Easy in silver screen.  

Our hardware of choice was Nest Studio Collection in brushed brass from their Hex collection!   It feels like sculpture in your hand.  The brushed brass finish added a jewelry-like statement to the kitchen and warmed up the stainless.

Ave Home - New Furniture Resource

Ave Home is a new company that I am thrilled to share with my readers! When I was in Atlanta, Georgia in March for Design Blogger's Conference, I was introduced to this great new resource.  I met the owner, Lisa Rickert, who is a little blonde ball of fire. Lisa's enthusiasm and passion about her new company sparked an interest for me to learn more about this new line.   I had the opportunity to see more of Ave Home's offerings in April at High Point Market, where Ave Home was exhibiting for the first time in Interhall.  High Point Market gave me a greater insight into the offerings of the new company, but it wasn't until my visit to New Orleans last week, that I discovered the depth of this company and the interesting story of how it came into inception.

Ave Home is actually the second company for Lisa Rickert.  Her first company was Unfolded, Exclusive Distributor for Annie Sloan Products in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.  Based in New Orleans, Lisa is responsible for bringing Annie Sloan paints to the United States and the other countries listed.  Her story is quite remarkable.  Lisa was rebuilding her home in New Orleans after Katrina and happened upon Annie Sloan paints and ordered paints for use in her own home.  She liked the products so much she contacted Annie Sloan about becoming the distributor in the United States and the rest is history.  Today, Unfolded provides Annie Sloan Stockists with distribution, marketing support as well as product education and training in the Annie Sloan Method.  I had the opportunity to visit Lisa, as well as the Ave Home and Unfolded headquarters on my recent visit to New Orleans where Ave Home was a sponsor of the Southern Style Now showhouse and events.

Ave Home seemed the natural progression for Lisa to develop after growing the Annie Sloan line.  I mean why wouldn't you want a furniture line to offer quality reproductions which could be used for the paints instead of using old furniture with drawers that don't work, or are non-functional?   Lisa created a raw or unfinished line for this purpose.   The "raw" line is not only well priced but offers the option of custom painting a quality piece of furniture without having to strip layers of old paint.  I find the raw pieces beautiful without paint but imagine how stunning these pieces could be if custom painted for client projects.  Take a look at the raw desk Parker Kennedy Living used in their Southern Style Now living room below:

Anders Collection:

La Cienega Legends 2016 - Parker Kennedy Window for Barclay Butera

Is this window fabulous or what?  I love it!  This week is the week of LaCienega Legends or LCDQ as the design community calls it.  During LCDQ designers from across the country are asked to design window along the LaCienega Boulevard of LA.  This year my dear friends Lance and David of Parker Kennedy Living fame were asked to design Barclay Butera's window.  Each year the committee of LaCienega chooses a theme and this year's theme was "One of a Kind".  Lance and David chose Wonder Woman for their inspiration for the window and commissioned well-known Atlanta artist, Mark Boomershine to paint one of his iconic Wonder Woman paintings.  No doubt this painting standing 72" x 72" commands your attention as you stroll down LaCienega Boulevard.  I love the nod to the ocean both Mark, and Parker Kennedy gave to the theme since this event is on the West coast.  If you are in LA this week, make sure you visit the window in person.  If you see Parker Kennedy, please give them a kiss for me!  They deserve a big high five from the design community for doing the Atlanta showhouse, then the window in LA and next week will be installing the Southern Style Now Showhouse in New Orleans!  Boy!  These guys are like the Eveready bunny!  If you like the window, make sure you click on the link and vote for it!
