Best Navy Blue Paint Colors - 8 of my Favs!

VIA

"Americans have a love affair with blue and white" reported Krissa Rossbund, Senior Style Editor of Traditional Homes Magazine. in her talk at Tobi Fairley's  "Get Published" Camp in April.   Whether dark and dramatic or bright and preppy, blues are versatile.  Blue is equally at home in a dining room or a child's room.  I am currently working on a project where I am incorporating blue in the color scheme and thought I would share some of my favorite navy blue paint colors with you in case you are looking for one yourself.  Of course, it is best to always start with fabrics, rug and art when choosing paint colors.  Let paint be your last selection unless you are in love with a certain paint color and want it to be the star of the room!  It is much easier to match paint to fabrics, or art than it is to do vice versa.

Here are some of my favorite images for navy paint inspiration.  I find it interesting how the trim is painted in various rooms. There are no rules or proper way to paint trim. Years ago it was in vogue to have white walls with colored trim, then the trend flipped and we began seeing colored walls with white or cream trim, now it seems anything goes but we often see trim and walls painted all one color. Which do you prefer? I often like to paint the trim and walls all the same color if the trim isn't very exciting but then again, heavy beautiful trim can be quite nice when painted the same as the walls.  We'll have to discuss that more later.  Back to blue..

What are your favorite navy paint colors?  Please share!

Do you have a hard time envisioning what a room will look like when looking a small paint chip?  Did you know that you can put a paint color name in the search bar of Pinterest and rooms painted in those colors will pop up?  I often tell clients to do this if they aren't sure about a color I suggest.  You can also search through google by typing the paint name in the search bar and clicking on images.  If you would like to see some of my other favorite paint colors visit my Pinterest board called Paint Colors.

Are you searching for a new color?  Do you need help with your decor?

  6. Hi Lisa, nice selection of blues and interesting post! I am not familiar with "New York State of Mind" but looks nice and you have to love the name! I have great results with "Hale Navy" from Benjamin Moore, but I am really interested in trying Farrow&Ball's Hague Blue somewhere...
    Cheers!

  7. Wonderful overview of navy! One thing that you may want to check is the color of your 4th picture down (with the two houndstooth stools). Having stayed at that hotel, the JK Capri, I believe the designer has said he used Farrow and Ball's Drawing Room Blue.

  8. Wonderful example of how the same color can look completely different based on the light in the room or, in this case perhaps, light used in photography (not to mention screen variables). I will show my students (and clients!) that they can't trust a picture on a computer or in a magazine to know what a color will look like on their walls.
